Legs are one of the biggest muscles in the body and tend to be the strongest. You use your legs for practically everything from day to day activities to recreational activities. It is important to condition them properly so that they stay health for a lifetime.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced you should understand the different parts of your legs and how they work. You should have a general idea of what muscle group you are working in individual exercises.

Types of Leg Workouts for Men

Quadriceps (Quads), are the front part of the thigh. This would be considered the largest muscles in the legs. Just about e A few exercises I would recommend are a combination of different types of squats: wall squats, barbell squats, and dumbell squats. Another great leg workouts for men is lunges, these can be performed with just body weight or dumbells. You can do this in a limited amount of space, stepping forward and then back in a continuous phase.

Next you have the hamstrings, which are the back side of the thigh. This muscle group is commonly worked along with the quad exercises. Although, there are specific exercises that will target your hamstrings. Some of the best and simple ones I use are the leg curl and a reverse lunge. You will have to have a machine to do the leg curl, you will lay face down on machine and bring each leg up.

You have the option to work one leg at a time or work them together. If you don’t have a machine the reverse lunge is a great alternative. In this exercise you will do the same as normal lunge that works the quads, but in this case you will be stepping back to concentrate on the hamstrings.

Calves are the smallest muscle group in the legs, located on the back side of your lower legs. Most exercises focusing on the calves don’t require any weights. The most popular exercise I have seen is the calf raise, this exercise works great stretching the muscle while breaking it down. You just stand up tall and will give a pushing motion up to stand on your toes. You do have the option to use dumbells if you feel you need a little weight.
